Years Dancing: 53 years

Erlyne Whiteman began formal dance training within the Chicago Suburban School Curriculum with Folk, Ballroom, Latin and Swing Dance in 1956.  In 1960, she began Laban and Graham training, again within the school curriculum (Physical Education).  In 1969, she began training at the Chautauqua Summer Institute of Dance, New York, where she continues to take classes each summer in Ballet,Modern and Jazz=53 years total.

About Erlyne Whiteman: Erlyne Whiteman is an Associate Professor of Theatre and Dance and the Artistic Director of the The Westmont Windancers (Fall Dance Concerts) at Westmont College, Santa Barbara, CA. She has a Ph.D. from USC in Dance Administration, an M.S. from NIU in Dance Education, and a B.S. in Physical Education from Wheaton College, IL.  She directed the Sacred Dance Company--Jubilee Dancers (1980-89) and has served on the board of Motion Theatre Dance Company of Santa Barbara.  She is involved with the Santa Barbara Dance Alliance, the Sacred Dance Guild, the National Dance Association and the Society of Dance History Scholars.  Her technical background includes Ballroom, Latin and Swing Dance, along with Laban, Graham and Giordano Chicago Jazz.  She has performed with Motion Theatre Dance Company, The Hawkins Dance Company Summer and Winter Intensives (Workshops) in Santa Barbara, Montecito School of Ballet as a guest artist and participates in the Chautauqua Summer Dance Program in New York.  She has been teaching at Wesmont College since 1974.
